Riesenweber Park Fenced Dog Park gives Jacobs Well something most small bayside towns never get: a secure, fully enclosed off-leash run open around the clock. The enclosure sits inside the wider Riesenweber Park on Bay Drive, which carries sports fields, a playground, a skate park and picnic shelters, so a dog run can slot into a family outing without anyone compromising.

The dog setup

The fenced yard is the only part of the reserve where off-leash applies. Keep the lead on through the car park and across the sports fields, then unclip inside the enclosure under the standard City of Gold Coast conditions: your dog stays under effective voice control, you pick up, and any dog showing aggression leaves. Waste bags and bins are provided, and a drinking fountain sits in the park for refills.

Boundaries and conditions do get revised by council, so treat the on-site signage as the final word if anything here and on the gate disagree.

The vibe

This is a locals' park rather than a destination. Weekday mid-mornings and early afternoons are the quiet windows, while early mornings, late afternoons and weekend mornings draw the regular crews. The reserve itself is well kept, with toilets including disability access, a fitness station and shaded seating near the dog yard.

Max: fenced does not mean switched off. Read the dogs already inside before you unclip, and wait for a gap at the gate if it is crowded.

Getting there and parking

The park is on Bay Drive with on-site parking. Public transport out to Jacobs Well is thin, so driving is the practical option for nearly everyone; the town sits at the northern end of the Gold Coast's southern bay, about twenty minutes from Sanctuary Cove and the northern Gold Coast suburbs.

While you're out there

After the run, the waterfront along Jacobs Well Road is a short walk for a leashed cooldown with a view over the anchorage. For coffee, The Castaway Cafe Grab and Go and The Little Brew Bus are both dog friendly stops in town, and Jacobs Well Tourist Park offers dog-friendly camping if you want to make a weekend of it.
