Lions Boulevard Camp Ground

Lions Boulevard Camp Ground is a free, waterfront camping area at the southern end of Russell Island in Moreton Bay, and the defining draw for dog owners is the combination of no cost stays with a designated off leash beach at the frontage.

Dogs at the camp ground

Dogs are permitted to stay overnight in the camping area at no charge, with no stated size limits. They can be off lead in the designated beach area during the applicable hours or seasons, but must be leashed and under effective control everywhere else on site. Check Redland City Council's current seasonal off leash rules before you arrive, as shared beach hours can shift with the season, and keep your dog leashed around the boat ramp and BBQ areas.

The place

This is basic, self sufficient camping rather than a caravan park: toilets, BBQs, outdoor showers and a boat ramp on site, with no power and no fires allowed. Bookings or permits go through Redland City Council's booking platform. The site has a reputation as a quiet spot and draws campers and fishers, most of whom arrive over the vehicle ferry from Redland Bay.

Getting there

Russell Island sits in the Southern Moreton Bay Islands, reached by the SeaLink vehicle ferry from Redland Bay Marina. The campground is on Lions Boulevard at the island's southern end, minutes from the ferry ramp on island roads.

While you're out there

The Russell Island Dog Park gives a dedicated off lead run beyond the beach, and Jock Kennedy Recreation Reserve adds another open space to stretch legs. For coffee with the dog, Cafe Memory Lane is on the island.

Max: There is a boat ramp on site, so keep your dog leashed near it and well away from vehicles and trailers being launched.
