Barak Bushlands Park Dog Off Leash Area

Barak Bushlands is a quiet, natural off-leash reserve on Falkiner Street, Eltham, with the Diamond Creek Trail running through native bushland. The terrain is steep, grassy and bush-covered, which makes it a genuine workout and best suited to active dogs and owners after a non-commercial walk rather than a social dog park.

The rules. Dogs may be off-leash in the designated areas under effective control, meaning constant sight and reliable recall. Keep your dog on-leash within five metres of shared paths like the Diamond Creek Trail and in marked on-leash zones. The reserve is unfenced and borders dense bushland with native wildlife, so close supervision matters.

What's there. Very little by design: informal street parking on Falkiner Street, no rubbish bins, no water taps and no toilets. Bring your own water and waste bags and pack everything out.

Getting there. Drive in via Falkiner Street, or walk and cycle straight off the Diamond Creek Trail. Eltham Station on the Hurstbridge line is a short distance away.

When to go. Rarely busy on any day; mid-week mornings are close to solitary. Good for active dogs with solid recall who like to explore.
