What visitors mention
Eltham Lower Park sits on the corner of Main Road and Hohnes Road, framed by bushland along Diamond Creek, and it is the area's main off-leash destination. The reason to come is the choice of zones: a fully fenced southern oval for secure running, plus the always-off-leash open space at Lenister Farm south of Homestead Road.
The rules. The southern oval is fenced and the safest bet for dogs still building recall. The northern oval is not fully fenced and is off-leash only when no sport training or games are on, so dogs are banned from the ovals during organised matches. Keep your dog on-leash within five metres of shared paths, and note that dogs are not allowed at the Pines Picnic Site, Hohnes Hill Reserve, or either of the two playgrounds (Eltham Lower Park and Eltham Copper Butterfly). Effective voice control is required throughout.
What's there. Secure fencing on the southern oval with gated entry, drinking water and dog bowls, some shaded areas under established trees, waste bins, and a dedicated car park. The Diamond Creek surrounds give it a green, settled feel.
Getting there. Drive in off Main Road near the Hohnes Road intersection; on-site parking sits within the larger sporting precinct. Eltham Station on the Hurstbridge line is the nearest train, roughly a 20 to 25 minute walk or a short bus along Main Road.

Nearby with the dogs. Central Eltham's cafes are a short drive: Tea Pot Cafe has a dog-friendly verandah, and Second Home runs a relaxed dog-friendly courtyard. The Diamond Creek Trail links straight off the park for a longer walk.
When to go. Busiest on weekend mornings and weekday evenings after work. For room to roam, aim for mid-morning or early afternoon on a weekday. In summer, hug the perimeter shade to keep your dog cool. Good for confident dogs who want a proper run.
