Mt Morton Reserve Dog Off Leash Area

Mount Morton Reserve is a small, hilly off-leash reserve on Chaundy Road in Belgrave South, tucked against the Baluk Willam Nature Conservation Reserve. It is an official Yarra Ranges Council off-leash area, but there is no fencing and no water on site, so this suits dogs with solid recall rather than a quick fenced run.

The rules. The open space is designated off-leash, but dogs need to be under effective voice control at all times. Keep dogs on-leash in the car park and along the public walkway in from Chaundy Road. The reserve borders conservation bushland, so expect native wildlife, including wallabies, and keep that in mind before going off-leash.

What's there. A small gravel car park, a stone path climbing to the summit, and two picnic tables, one at the top of the hill. There are no water taps, no bins and no fenced area, so bring your own water and carry out all waste.

Getting there. Access is off Belgrave-Hallam Road via Mount Morton Road and Chaundy Road, with a small parking area at the reserve entrance. Belgrave Station is the nearest train stop, about 2-3 kilometres away, too far to walk comfortably with most dogs.

When to go. A quiet reserve most days, with weekend late mornings the busiest it gets. Midweek mornings give the most space to yourselves. Good for dogs with reliable recall who want a hilly bush walk rather than a flat, fenced run.
