Flip Espresso

Flip Espresso sits right at the entrance to Scarvaci's IGA on Rockingham Road in Hamilton Hill, pouring Five Senses beans over one of the friendliest small cafe setups in Perth's southern suburbs. It opens 6am to 2pm weekdays, 7am to 2pm Saturdays and 7am to midday on Sundays.

The dog setup

Dogs are genuinely welcomed rather than tolerated: water bowls are dotted around, a treat jar lives on the counter, and staff treat visiting dogs like regulars. Outdoor tables are the default, and regulars report dogs are fine inside too when the room is not busy.

If you head indoors, keep your dog close and supervised, because this is a working cafe on a supermarket entrance with steady foot traffic. Sitting near the door keeps things easy for everyone.

Worth knowing

The coffee is the drawcard, with a short and well executed food menu covering bacon and egg bagels, banana bread and the usual breakfast and lunch staples. The practical bonus is being able to duck into the IGA for groceries while your order is made.

Getting there

The cafe is in the Rockingham Road shopping complex, with free shared parking in the IGA car park directly outside. Mornings are the pick, before the car park fills with shoppers and while the tables are cool.

Make a day of it

Walk it off around the Bibra Lake Loop a few minutes west, or let the dog off the lead at the South Lake Fenced Dog Park. Sasida Cafe in the same suburb is the other local dog-friendly pour, and Angie's Bistrot does a full brunch with the dogs.
