The Salty Dog Beach Cafe is a coffee van and kiosk parked right on C.Y. O'Connor Beach in North Coogee, the obvious stop before or after a run on the sand next door.

The dog setup. Dogs are welcome in the outdoor, sandy and paved seating area around the van. Leashed, well-behaved dogs are the expectation. Water bowls are generally out for thirsty dogs, and free treats often go to visiting dogs too, so this is as easy as beach cafes get.

Good to know. It opens early, from around 6:45am, which suits a coffee-and-beach-walk routine, and it is quieter on weekdays than weekend mornings. The menu is simple and fresh: toasties, breakfast wraps, acai bowls, cinnamon buns and smoothies.

Getting there. It is at 25 Rollinson Road, North Coogee, with free parking in the public lot right beside it.

Nearby with the dogs. North Coogee Dog Beach is immediately in front, an off-leash cove worth combining with a coffee stop either side. There is also a shaded playground next door if you have kids in tow.

Confirm current hours before a special trip, coffee vans can shift their days, but this one is a reliable pre- or post-beach stop for a treat and a water bowl.
