South Beach Cafe

A casual beachside cafe on Ocean Road, a few steps from the South Beach dog exercise area. It is the obvious post-swim coffee stop, with ocean views from the alfresco tables and a dog beach right next door.

The dog setup. Dogs are welcome in the outdoor covered patio and alfresco area, which is where you want to be for the view anyway. Water bowls are out, and dog treats can be bought at the counter. Keep them off the grassed area directly around the cafe, which is the one spot dogs are not meant to be.

Good to know. It runs on breakfast, lunch and coffee, with crowd favourites like fish and chips, the bacon and egg roll and smoothies. The pull is the location and the views rather than anything fussy.

Getting there. 9 Ocean Road. There is a public car park right at South Beach, but it fills on weekends and warm afternoons, so come earlier to get a spot close.

Nearby with the dogs. The South Beach off-leash area is a few steps away for a run before or after, and the paved coastal path runs along the sand for an on-leash stroll.
