Paper Cup

Paper Cup is a small neighbourhood cafe in a modest complex on Hampton Road, South Fremantle, a few blocks back from the South Terrace coffee bustle. It is run by the family behind the Peaches Fresh food store next door, and it has made a name as a genuine dog-friendly stop: dogs get the outdoor tables, water bowls are usually out, and free dog biscuits have been known to appear at the counter.

Where the dog sits

Dogs are welcome at the outdoor tables at the front of the shop, which is where everyone sits on a Fremantle morning anyway. Keep your dog leashed and settled beside the table so staff can move around the small forecourt. Indoors depends on the space and the day, so treat outside as the default plan. The complex setting keeps traffic light, which suits a dog that startles at passing bikes.

Worth knowing

The pull is organic coffee with a wide range of alternative milks, plus a food list heavy on wholesome options: acai bowls, homemade porridge, wraps, and a strong selection of raw, vegan and gluten-free baked goods, with the sausage rolls a regular favourite. Hours run 5:45am to 2pm every day of the week, one of the earlier opens in the suburb, and weekday mornings are the calmest.

Getting there and parking

The cafe is in a small complex on Hampton Road with limited parking out front and easier spots on the nearby residential side streets. It is an easy ride or walk from the South Beach end of South Fremantle.

Make a day of it

The South Beach dog off-leash area is the natural pairing, and Fremantle Groyne adds another stretch of legs nearby. If you want a second coffee stop, Third Wheel Cafe and South Beach Cafe both welcome dogs.
