The Anchorage

The Anchorage is a heritage 1902 home on Jenkin Street in South Fremantle, about 300 metres from the South Beach dog beach. The draw is the walk: you can be on the sand before your coffee goes cold, then come back to a quiet garden set one street off the South Terrace cafe strip.

Dogs at the Anchorage

Dogs are welcome by prior arrangement, capped at two pets. The host's house rules are firm about the details: dogs need to be house-trained, freshly washed and flea-free, and they are not to be left unattended inside the house or garden. Chronic barkers are not a good fit for the property. As with any short-stay let, confirm the current pet terms and any fee directly with the host when booking, since these change.

Max: the outdoor shower is the detail that matters here. Rinse the salt and sand off before anyone goes back inside on those polished timber floors.

The place

It is a self-contained heritage house with polished timber floors, high ceilings, air conditioning and heating, a full kitchen and laundry, and a private garden with an alfresco area. The outdoor shower by the door is built for exactly the routine this location demands. On-site parking is included, which is worth having around the South Terrace strip.

Getting there

Check-in is from 3pm and check-out is before 10am. The property sits a short walk from the South Beach foreshore, with the cafe row along South Terrace between the two. Fremantle's centre is a few minutes further by car or a longer stroll along Marine Terrace.

While you're out there

The South Beach dog off-leash area runs along the sand from the Douro Road boundary south, with dogs on-leash through the reserve, on the paths and in the surrounding streets. South Beach Cafe sits right on the sand for post-swim coffee, and Third Wheel Cafe up on South Terrace is the local favourite with dogs usually camped outside. The South Fremantle Groyne area adds a grassy foreshore option for on-leash time.
