The Anchorage

A heritage 1902 home on Jenkin Street, about a 300-metre walk to the South Beach off-leash dog beach. The draw is the location: you can be on the sand before your coffee goes cold, then walk back to a quiet garden set off the South Terrace strip.

The pet policy. Dogs are welcome, with a limit of two pets. It is a non-smoking property. Check-in is from 3:00pm and check-out is before 10:00am. As with any short-stay let, confirm the current pet terms and any fee directly with the host when you book, since these can change.

The place. A self-contained heritage house with polished timber floors, high ceilings, air conditioning and heating, a full kitchen and laundry. There is a private garden with an alfresco area and, handy for a dog, an outdoor shower for rinsing sandy paws. On-site parking is included.

Location and nearby. The off-leash dog beach sits south of the Douro Road boundary at South Beach, a 3-4 minute walk away. Dogs must be on-leash through South Beach Reserve and the surrounding streets. For coffee and a feed, South Beach Cafe is right on the sand, and the South Terrace strip has dog-friendly spots within a short walk.

Before you book. Confirm the pet fee and whether both your dogs are covered. Best suited to owners who want beach access without a drive, and a quiet base a street back from the busy cafe row.
