Bibra Lake Loop

Bibra Lake Loop runs 6.6 km of sealed path right around a wetland in Beeliar Regional Park, in Perth's southern suburbs, and the lead stays on for every metre of it.

The walk

A flat, easy grade on a dual use path that circles the lake without a gate or a stile, so most dogs cover it in about an hour and a half at a sniffing pace. It is shared with cyclists and runners, and because the surface is sealed the whole way around, it suits a pram, a barrow, or a dog that has stopped enjoying rough ground. Bird hides and small jetties branch off the path if you want to stop.

Leash status

The City of Cockburn sets dog access here alongside the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions, and the council rule is simple: dogs are allowed on lead in all public places in the City of Cockburn unless signage states otherwise. Bibra Lake is not one of Cockburn's dog-prohibited spots, so you are welcome, on lead, with rangers enforcing it tightly because this is wetland habitat. The one exclusion on site is the regional playground, where dogs are not permitted inside the fenced area but are fine on a lead outside it.

Max: The lead is not decoration here. Waterbirds nest at the lake edge, and a dog that swings wide on a long line will put them up before you have even seen them.

Water and hazards

Bring your own water. This is a bird wetland rather than a swimming lake, and the on-lead rule around the water is exactly what keeps it that way. Toilets and change rooms sit beside the playground, and a food truck usually runs there for coffee. Snakes are the standing warning across Cockburn, and the council's own advice is to exercise your dog on a leash at all times for that reason. Stay on the sealed path through the warmer months rather than cutting through the reeds.

Getting there and parking

Free parking runs along Progress Drive, with the largest bays near the regional playground. The area is also reachable on foot heading toward Progress Drive from the surrounding streets, though most people drive.

When to go

Early morning, particularly between November and March, when the sealed path holds heat and the western side offers little shade. Winter mornings are the pick: the waterbirds are busy and the path drains fast. Good for seniors and for dogs who need a predictable, flat surface.

While you're out there

Angie's Bistrot on Parkway Road is the closest coffee with undercover outdoor seating, and Sul Lago Lifestyle at Beeliar is a short drive.
