Rocks Cafe Griffin

Rocks Cafe Griffin is a family-run cafe at 1000 Dohles Rocks Road, sitting right on the North Pine River opposite the Dohles Rocks Boat Ramp, about twenty minutes north of Brisbane. It opens early, 5:30am on weekdays through to midday and 5:30am to 2pm on weekends, and pairs its river views with a side line in bait, tackle and ice for anglers launching at the ramp across the road.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the tree-covered outdoor garden and patio, where picnic-style seating looks out over the water. There is a dedicated water station for dogs in the garden, and the cafe is known for handing out complimentary pup cups to four-legged visitors, which is a step beyond the usual bowl-on-the-floor. Keep the lead on throughout your visit: the setting is open riverside, close to a working road and boat ramp, so a leashed dog is the safe and expected arrangement here.

Worth knowing

The menu leans towards coffee and light breakfast items, and the draw is the panorama across the North Pine River as much as the food. The cafe also hosts occasional car and bike meet-ups, which bring a busier, noisier crowd on those mornings, so if your dog prefers calm, check their socials before you go. Weekend mornings fill with the combined fishing and cafe crowd, and parking along Dohles Rocks Road tightens up accordingly.

Getting there and parking

Free street parking runs along Dohles Rocks Road directly out front, with extra space near the boat ramp. Weekdays are the easier bet for a spot and a quiet table.

Close by with the dogs

The Dohles Rocks foreshore sits directly across the road for a leashed river walk, with the riverbank near the Osprey House environmental centre a quiet stretch worth protecting for shorebirds, so stay on the paths and keep the lead short there. For proper off-leash time, Vanilla Ave Dog Park is the local option in Griffin itself, and Gardenia Dog Park in North Lakes is a few minutes south with fenced zones for large and small dogs, agility obstacles and water bubblers. If you are heading towards the bay instead, the Sandgate Foreshore dog off-leash area across the Houghton Highway side lets dogs run the tidal flats off lead.
