Sunny Street

Sunny Street is a small, community-focused cafe on Deagon Street in central Sandgate, trading from 5:30am six days a week and built around homemade, fresh food and a genuinely conversational welcome. It is a neighbourhood stop rather than a destination, a short walk from the Sandgate foreshore, and dogs are welcome at the outdoor front tables where the regulars and their pets tend to congregate.

The dog setup

Dogs join you at the outdoor seating at the front of the cafe. Staff are noted for engaging with pets, and a water bowl often appears without asking, though bringing your own is the reliable move at a compact spot like this. The footprint is small, so a settled dog at your feet works best, and the early weekday mornings are the quietest slot.

The pitch is homemade, local and fresh: consistent coffee, a spread of sweet and savoury treats, and a friendly vibe that the small crew of regulars clearly return for. It runs Monday to Saturday from 5:30am to midday and closes Sundays, so it is a morning habit rather than an afternoon plan. Good for kids as well as dogs, which tells you the tone of the place.

The cafe is at 119 Deagon Street, Sandgate, with street parking nearby on the main street. It is an easy dog-on-lead walk from Sandgate station and the foreshore, which is the natural way to build the morning: walk first, coffee second.
