Curlew Park Fenced Dog Park

Curlew Park Fenced Dog Park is a fully fenced off-leash park at 92 Curlew Street in Sandgate, on Brisbane's bayside. The fencing is the reason to come: it is a secure place to let a dog run when you would rather not rely on recall, with separate sections for large and small dogs and a playground and sports fields alongside.

The dog setup

The off-leash area is fully enclosed, split into two fenced zones so small dogs can play away from the bigger, more boisterous crowd. The large-dog section includes an obstacle course style set of agility equipment, and there are mature shade trees plus gazebos and benches for owners. Off-leash runs 24 hours under Brisbane City Council rules, but you are responsible for supervising your dog at all times, carrying bags and using the bins provided, and removing any dog that turns aggressive. Latch the gate behind you.

Worth knowing

The on-site water supply can be unreliable, so bring your own bowl and water rather than counting on the tap. Grass covers most of the enclosure with some worn dirt patches near the gates where traffic is heaviest. Weekend mornings are the social peak, while a weekday visit is quieter and better for dogs still learning the ropes or small dogs who want their own space.

Pepsi: the small dog side is the whole reason I like this park. I can sniff around without a Great Dane landing on my head.

Getting there and parking

Access is off Curlew Street with street parking in the surrounding blocks. The park is a short walk from the Sandgate foreshore and Shorncliffe Pier, and reachable from Sandgate Station and local buses, though expect a decent walk from the platform.
