Bill Brown Sports Reserve Fenced Dog Park is the big paddock in Bracken Ridge's sporting heart, a fully fenced off-leash area on Denham Street that stays open around the clock. It is a straightforward place: open grass, room to run, and enough space that a fast dog can actually stretch out rather than circle.

The dog setup

The enclosure is fully fenced with double gates at the entry, and the off-leash rules apply only inside it. On the way through the car park and across the surrounding sports fields, dogs stay on leash, which is worth remembering on game days when the ovals are busy. Bins are provided and the gates need a firm shove to latch, so check behind you.

Facilities are practical rather than fancy. Picnic tables give owners somewhere to sit, waste bins sit near the entry, and the parking bays beside the dog area include wheelchair-accessible spots with an accessible route into the park.

This is mostly open grass with limited natural shade, so the middle of a Brisbane summer day is hard work for a thick-coated dog. Bring water and time your visit for early morning or evening. Getting there and parking

The dog park sits on Denham Street within the Bill Brown Sports Reserve precinct in Bracken Ridge, about 20 minutes north of the Brisbane CBD. Free parking is right beside the fenced area, including accessible bays, and Brisbane City Council bus routes serve the surrounding streets if you would rather not drive.

Close by with the dogs

Bracken Ridge has a second fenced option at Barrett Street Park, handy when this one is crowded. Just over the boundary, the Hidden World dog off-leash area at Fitzgibbon pairs a run with the playground precinct, and down the hill the Curlew Park fenced dog park at Sandgate is an easy detour. For coffee with the dog, Green Field Cafe has outdoor seating on Barrett Street.
