Barrett Street Park Fenced Dog Park

Barrett Street Park Fenced Dog Park sits within the Bracken Ridge Reserve off Norris Road, a hilltop, fully fenced off-leash area that is open 24 hours and looks out over Brisbane's northern suburbs. It combines open grass with pockets of bushland, which gives a run here more variety than the average suburban enclosure.

The dog setup

Entry is through a double gate, so latch it behind you both ways. Dogs must stay under effective control at all times, and only handlers aged 12 or over can be in charge of a dog. Dangerous or restricted breeds are not permitted, dogs in season should stay home, and droppings need to be binned, with your own bags as backup. Water is available on site, and covered picnic tables and benches give owners somewhere to settle. The bushland sections are the watch-out: dogs with a strong prey drive should stay close, the ground can get muddy after rain, and it is worth keeping flea and tick prevention current given the natural surrounds.

Max: stick close to the bushland edges if your dog likes to chase, and double check the gate latches behind you both ways.

Worth knowing

Lighting is minimal, so bring a torch if you are visiting after dark. The elevated position is the bonus: you get sweeping views toward Moreton Bay and the city while the dogs work the fence line. Weekday middays are quiet; late afternoons and weekend mornings draw the local regulars.

Getting there and parking

The park is reached via Norris Road in Bracken Ridge, about 20 minutes north of the Brisbane CBD, with free parking right at the park grounds near the water reservoir. Translink bus routes run along Norris Road if you are coming without a car.

While you're out there

Bill Brown Sports Reserve Fenced Dog Park is Bracken Ridge's other fenced yard, a few minutes away, and Curlew Park Fenced Dog Park sits out toward the coast. For a change of scene, the Sandgate Foreshore off-leash area and its cafe strip are a short drive further.
