Blackwood Cronulla

Blackwood is a busy, chef-driven cafe at 5/33 Surf Lane, just off Cronulla's main drag and a short walk from the beach. The outdoor tables sit on a lively pedestrian lane, dogs are welcome there alongside you, and staff are proactive about bringing water out. This is one of the Shire's flagship brunch rooms, so plan the dog seating accordingly.

The dog setup

Dogs join you at the outdoor tables on Surf Lane, where staff regularly bring water out without being asked. The catch is the crowd: this is one of the most popular brunch spots in Cronulla, so a shaded table with room for a dog means an early arrival or a short wait on weekends. Weekday mornings are the relaxed window. Hours run 7am to 3pm daily, stretching later on weekends.

Worth knowing

The menu is a step above the usual beach suburb offering, built by a chef with fine-dining training: the Morning Glory bowl, miso avo and chilli scrambled eggs lead the list, with fritters and a prawn poke bowl behind them. Coffee and the matcha lattes are well rated. It is a high-turnover room, so think settled-and-quick rather than a long camp.

Getting there and parking

Find it on Surf Lane, the pedestrian lane just off Cronulla Street and a few minutes' walk from the station. Free street parking sits on the surrounding blocks, but central Cronulla fills fast on beach days, so arrive before nine or come after the morning rush. The beachfront esplanade is a flat walk away with a dog on lead.

Make a day of it

For off-lead sand time, the Kurnell Dog Beach and Greenhills' morning off-leash zone up at Wanda are the go options, with morning hours applying. Closer in, Shelly Park Shop sits on the esplanade loop, and Miss Jaffles Cafe plus Top Shop at Wanda cover the other dog-friendly coffee stops.
