Blackwood is a busy, chef-driven cafe at 5/33 Surf Lane, just off the main drag and a short walk from the beach. The outdoor tables sit on a lively pedestrian lane, and dogs are welcome there alongside you.

Good to know. The menu is a step above the usual, built by a chef with fine-dining training, with brunch plates like the Morning Glory bowl, miso avo and chilli scrambled eggs. Coffee and the matcha lattes are well rated. Open seven days, roughly 7am to 3pm.

Getting there. Free street parking sits around the surrounding blocks, but central Cronulla fills up at weekend peak, so allow time to circle.

Nearby with the dogs. Blackwood's Beach and the Cronulla esplanade walking path are both close, so it works well as the food stop on a longer coastal walk.

Weekday mornings are calmest. Come early on weekends if you want a table with shade and space for the dog rather than a kerbside squeeze.
