What visitors mention
Apsley Place Fenced Dog Park is a small, fully fenced off-leash area tucked behind the baseball fields at the end of Apsley Place, Taren Point. It is a no-frills, locally used spot, quieter than the bigger regional dog parks, and popular with greyhound owners looking for a secure place to let dogs stretch their legs.
The rules. Dogs run off-leash inside the fenced area only, and must be leashed on the way in and out. Owners need to keep effective control at all times, and restricted or declared dangerous breeds are not permitted. Pick up after your dog, bins and bags are provided. Outside the fence the surrounding reserve is on-leash, as it borders shorebird habitat.
What's there. Secure perimeter fencing with a double-gated entry, basic seating, and a water tap. Shade is sparse, so a portable water bowl is a good idea on hot days. There is a children's playground nearby, separate from the dog area.
Getting there. Access is via Taren Point Road into Apsley Place, then to the end of the street beside the baseball fields. Street parking on Apsley Place is usually easy to find. Buses run along Taren Point Road, but the walk in from the nearest stop crosses an industrial stretch.
Watch-outs. The ground turns to mud quickly after rain, bring a towel for the car. It gets busiest on weekend mornings and some Tuesday afternoons; weekdays and early Sunday are the quiet times.

Nearby with the dogs. Noah's Cafe on Alexander Avenue is a short drive away for a coffee afterwards, and Kurnell's dog beaches are within reach over the Captain Cook Bridge if you want to extend the outing.
Weekday mornings or early Sunday are the best windows for a quiet run. Good for dogs that want space to sprint without the crowd of a bigger regional park.
