Carport Cafe

Carport Cafe is a garden cafe at 3 Pickwick Street, just off Wynnum Road in Cannon Hill, set in a leafy converted carport and courtyard. It is one of Brisbane's east's most popular brunch spots, and dogs are warmly permitted throughout the outdoor seating areas, which is most of the venue anyway.

The dog setup

The lush landscaped courtyard and shaded alfresco areas are all dog territory, and there is plenty of room to settle a dog beside the table. Staff have a genuine reputation for making four-legged guests comfortable, and water bowls are generally available, though asking never hurts. The setting is relaxed and family-heavy on weekends, so sociable dogs do best here; keep leads on, and aim for a weekday morning if your dog prefers a quieter pace.

On the plate

The kitchen is known for generous serves of cafe classics: the signature Carport Breakfast, a Green Breakfast, loaded smashed avocado, eggs benedict and fritters, plus fresh juices and coffee that regulars rate highly. Serves run large, which suits the post-walk appetite. Hours are 6am to 2pm daily.

Getting there and parking

There is onsite parking, though weekend mornings fill up fast, so arriving before 8am on Saturdays and Sundays saves the wait. Bus stops along Wynnum Road are a short walk away.

Close by with the dogs

Whites Hill Reserve's fenced dog park is the nearest big off-leash run, and the Seven Hills circuit handles the on-leash loop. Elanora Park's fenced dog park is the option out toward the bay. Cafe and Bar on Whites Hill sits inside the reserve itself, and Second Home Coffee is a good Wynnum pairing.
