A long, unpatrolled surf beach on the Buddina-Warana border, with off-leash sand running south from Beach Access 226 near Talinga Street. The draw is space: a wide, sandy stretch where a dog can run, swim and cover ground away from the busier patrolled sections up the coast.
The rules. Dogs are off-leash on the sand from Access 226 south towards Wurtulla, and must be under effective voice control. Sunshine Coast Council's updated dog access rules take effect 3 July 2026, so check the on-site signage before you head down. Keep dogs on-leash until you are through the access point, and note that sections north of 226 towards Point Cartwright carry prohibited zones. Dogs are not permitted in the dunes, playgrounds or barbecue areas, and you must pick up after them.
The water and sand. This is open surf, not a calm lagoon, so read the conditions before letting a keen swimmer in. Low tide gives you the widest, firmest sand for running and fetch; high tide narrows the beach considerably.
Getting there. From the Sunshine Motorway, follow Kawana Way to Oceanic Drive, Buddina, and park on the street near the Talinga Street access. Beach showers sit at several access points along the stretch for a rinse-off afterwards. Sunbus services run along Nicklin Way, a short walk from the beach accesses.
Nearby with the dogs. Sandy Feet Cafe Kawana sits right on the coastal path a little further along for a post-walk coffee and free treats, and there are dog-friendly cafes and holiday rentals through Buddina and Warana.
Watch-outs. The beach is unpatrolled, so swimmers should be cautious and mind the surf. It is a popular spot, busiest on weekend mornings and Saturday afternoons.
Best visited early on a weekday at low tide, when the sand is widest and the crowds thinnest. Good for big runners who need room to stretch out.
