End of dog beach 226

This is the southern end of the Buddina off-leash beach, starting at Beach Access 226 near Talinga Street on the Buddina-Warana border. The draw is space: a long, wide, unpatrolled surf beach where a dog can run, swim and cover ground well away from the patrolled sections up the coast.

The rules

Dogs are off-leash on the sand from Access 226 south towards Wurtulla, under effective voice control, and must be on-lead until you are through the access point. Sections north of 226 towards Point Cartwright carry prohibited zones, so do not drift up the beach with a loose dog. Keep dogs out of the dunes, away from playgrounds and barbecue areas, and pick up after them. Sunshine Coast Council's updated dog access rules took effect on 3 July 2026, so check the on-site signage at the ramp before you head down, and check the access ramp for temporary nesting restrictions.

The water

This is open surf, not a calm lagoon, so read the conditions before letting a keen swimmer in and keep retrieves to the shallows when it is heavy. Low tide gives the widest, firmest sand for running and fetch; high tide narrows the beach considerably.

Pepsi: low tide is the whole game here. Firm sand from the water to the dunes, and your dog can burn an hour without ever seeing a lead.

What's there

Beach showers sit at several access points along the stretch for a rinse-off, with waste bins at the main access points. There is no fenced area, so this is a beach for dogs with reasonable recall rather than a secure run.

Getting there

From the Sunshine Motorway, follow Kawana Way to Oceanic Drive and park on the street near the Talinga Street access. Sunbus services run along Nicklin Way, a short walk from the beach accesses, and the coastal path links the whole stretch on foot.

Watch-outs

The beach is unpatrolled, with no flags and no lifeguards, so keep swimming conservative when the swell is up. It is a popular spot, busiest on weekend mornings and Saturday afternoons, and the high-tide sand narrows against the soft dune edge.
