Point Cartwright Walkway

The headland walk at Point Cartwright Reserve, Buddina, taking in the lighthouse, the clifftop paths and 360-degree views back over Mooloolaba and down the coast. It is a scenic on-leash walk through a grassy reserve, with beach access at the northern end, and the payoff is the outlook rather than a long or hard route.

The walk. Easy, well-made pathways loop through the reserve to the lighthouse and along the headland, suitable for most dogs and unhurried company. It is a walk-and-look outing, not a distance workout, though you can extend it along the coastal pathway network.

Leash status. Dogs are on-leash on the reserve pathways. The one off-leash window is the northern beach (locally called Carties Beach), open to dogs only between 4pm and 8am Monday to Friday, and prohibited on weekends. The rocky foreshore, the headland point and the dunes are off-limits to dogs entirely. Sunshine Coast Council's updated rules take effect 3 July 2026, so check the signage before you go.

What's there. Dog waste bag dispensers, bins and water fountains on-site, with picnic shelters, barbecues and a playground down in the adjoining La Balsa Park.

Getting there. Drive via Nicklin Way and Point Cartwright Drive, parking at La Balsa Park or at the top of the hill off Pacific Boulevard. It is also reachable on foot or by bike along the coastal pathway, and Sunbus routes 600, 601 and 602 stop on Nicklin Way a short walk away.

Nearby with the dogs. One on La Balsa sits right in the adjoining park and is dog-friendly, handy for a coffee after the loop. Buddina has plenty of pet-friendly holiday rentals nearby.

Busiest on weekend mornings and on weekday late afternoons once the 4pm beach window opens. Go early on a weekday for the quietest walk and the clearest views.
