Buddina Beach Off-Leash Area (Access 210-217)

Buddina's off-leash stretch runs along the surf beach between access points 210 and 217, roughly from Mawarra Avenue to Talinga Street, and it is one of the best open-sand runs on the Sunshine Coast. Dogs are permitted off-leash on the sand at all times, and even at peak the beach spreads out enough that it rarely feels crowded.

The dog setup

The off-leash rule applies to the sand only, not the dunes or the parkland behind, so keep the lead on until you are through the access point and hold voice control on the beach. The dunes are a fenced, sensitive environmental zone and strictly off-limits, restricted breeds are not permitted, and waste gets bagged and binned.

Sunshine Coast Council's updated dog access rules take effect on 3 July 2026, so read the signage at the access point before you commit, particularly if your last visit was a while ago.

The water and sand

This is open, unpatrolled surf with no lifeguard coverage, so judge conditions yourself and keep weak swimmers in the shallows. The wet sand near the waterline is the running lane: firm footing for dogs, and it keeps them out of the dune vegetation.

Max: the dunes are fenced off for a reason. Keep a keen dog on the wet sand and out of the vegetation, and the whole stretch opens up. Weekday mornings tend to draw the regulars, while weekends bring swimmers and stand-up paddlers to the same water.

Getting there and parking

Street parking sits along the residential streets behind the access points, with the biggest clusters near Mawarra Avenue and Talinga Street. Early mornings are easiest for both parking and space, and the walkways from the street to the sand are short.

Close by with the dogs Rips shift along this stretch after swell, so pick the entry that matches your dog's swimming confidence.

The Point Cartwright Walkway starts from the Buddina end and makes the natural on-lead warm-up along the headland. For coffee, Little Miss Saine and Sunday Coffee are both within a short drive of the sand.
