Dog Friendly Beach access 226-247

Warana Beach access points 226 to 245 give you a long, sandy, 24-hour off-leash stretch on the quieter southern end of the Sunshine Coast. It is an unpatrolled surf beach with moderate swell, residential rather than touristy, and usually a good deal calmer than nearby Mooloolaba, which makes it a reliable pick for high-energy dogs that want room to run.

The rules. Dogs are off-leash at all times between Access 226 and 245, under effective voice control the whole way. They are not permitted in the dunal areas or the Warana Foreshore Bushland Reserve behind the beach, both of which are fenced-off conservation zones. Pick up after your dog and use the bins at the access points.

The water and sand. This is open surf, not a calm lagoon, so read the conditions before letting a keen swimmer in. Low to mid tide is when the beach is at its best, with firm sand underfoot and a wider running strip. High tide narrows the usable space considerably and pushes everyone up toward the soft sand.

What's there. Free street parking runs the length of Oceanic Drive, and there is rarely a shortage. Public showers, seating and formed beach-access paths sit at several points. John Hotton Park (Access 232) and Paul Niesler Park (Access 237) back onto the beach and give you grass, shade and a spot to regroup. Bring your own water, as taps are not guaranteed at every entry.

Getting there. Exit Nicklin Way into Warana and follow Oceanic Drive to whichever access number suits you. The coastal pathway runs parallel to the sand if you would rather walk or cycle in, and SunBus routes along Nicklin Way drop you a short walk from the access points.

Weekday mornings are the quiet window. Weekends bring local families and walkers, and the 5 to 6pm after-work rush is the busiest stretch of the day. Aim for a low-to-mid tide morning and you will have the firm sand largely to yourself.
