Thorn-Clarke Wines

The short version. Thorn-Clarke is a family-owned Barossa cellar door at 266 Gawler Park Road, with a modern tasting room and expansive lawns looking over the Milton Park vineyard. Dogs are welcome on a lead, and the big lawn is the reason to bring yours: there is genuine room to settle in with a glass and a platter.

Where the dog goes. Dogs are welcome on a lead in the outdoor areas, with the lawn and adjacent outdoor seating the best spot. The main tasting area is indoors but sits directly beside the outdoor seating, so you can order and stay with the dog. Bring your own water bowl and treats.

What's there. BYO picnics are permitted on the lawn, or you can order a produce platter and wines by the glass. There are lawn games and a golf driving range, plus an EV charging station on site, so it is set up for a longer, relaxed visit rather than a quick tasting.

Worth knowing. The wines to look for are the Barossa Shiraz and Cabernet and the Eden Valley Riesling. The garden setting is family-friendly, so weekends can get busy on the lawn.

Getting there. It is about a 3-minute drive from the Angaston township, with ample parking at the cellar door. Open 7 days, 10am to 5pm.

When to go. Weekday late mornings are calmest for a lawn spot. On busy weekends aim early, and pack shade and water if the forecast is warm, as the lawn is open and exposed.
