Melba's Chocolates Barossa Valley

Melba's Chocolates at 29 Valley Road, Angaston is a dessert bar and confectionery shop with a large outdoor lawn and garden area, and that outdoor space is where dogs are welcome. It is an easy, low-key stop for a hot chocolate or a grazing board while the dog stretches out on the grass.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the outdoor seating area, which is generous and grassy with room to spread out. Dogs are not permitted inside the shop or dessert bar itself, so if you want to browse the counter it helps to have a second person stay outside with the dog. Bring your own water bowl, as one is not always out.

Worth knowing

The draw is the chocolate: signature bars, the apricot chocolate, hot chocolates and dessert options, plus meat and fruit grazing boards if you want to linger. The setting is relaxed and family-friendly, with games for kids on the lawn, so expect other groups on busy weekends. Doors open 9am to 4:30pm daily, and weekday mornings soon after open are the quiet window.

Getting there and parking

Free on-site parking plus free street parking, usually with plenty of space, which is a contrast to the tighter valley cellar doors. The site is a short walk from the Angaston main street if you want to combine it with a stroll.

Make a day of it

Thorn-Clarke Wines is an Angaston cellar door a few minutes away, and Nuriootpa Fenced Dog Park is your closest dedicated off-lead run, a secure fenced space on Penrice Road. The Barossa Council also allows off-lead exercise under effective control in unsigned reserves.
