Gibson Wines is a relaxed cellar door in Light Pass, in the Barossa Valley, set behind a historic cottage called The Smithy. For dog owners, the drawcard is a laid-back, lawn-fringed courtyard with vineyard views where well-behaved dogs on a lead are welcome to join you.

The rules. Dogs must be kept on a lead and secured outside the cellar door building at all times. They are not permitted inside the indoor tasting room. Guide and assistance dogs are welcome both inside and out. Gibson does have a resident winery dog that often wanders unrestrained, so make sure your dog is comfortable sharing space with a loose canine before you settle in.

What's there. Gibson specialises in premium, old-vine Shiraz, with the signature "Dirtman" label leading the charge. The courtyard tastings look directly over the vines, and the Weber Grill Academy runs on-site for something more substantial than a standard cheese plate. Bring your own water bowl, as none are specifically provided.

Getting there. You will find the cellar door at 190 Willows Rd, Light Pass SA 5355, with a free on-site parking lot. There is no local bus service. If you are not driving, Barossa Taxis or the Barossa and Light Cab Service are the recommended options and can transport pets.

When to go. The cellar door is open seven days a week, 11am to 5pm. Aim for a midweek late-morning arrival for the calmest courtyard experience and the easiest parking. Call ahead if you want to confirm the resident winery dog will not be an issue for your group.
