Hosts Julie and Patrick are animal lovers and welcome pets under the right arrangements, but the property runs farm livestock, so you must contact them in advance to discuss your dog before booking. If your dog is approved, bring your own dog bedding. Fees and size limits are not published, so settle those directly when you enquire. A calm dog that is reliable around stock is the right fit; if yours chases or gets over-excited around animals, this is not the property for it.

Max: livestock on site means a lead near the fences and firm recall are non-negotiable. Confirm exactly where the dog can and cannot roam when you talk to the hosts.

The vibe

It suits a quiet self-catering stay rather than a resort-style base, and the hills position puts you out of town on Gawler Park Road, a few minutes' drive from Angaston's main street.

Getting there

The retreat sits at 102 Gawler Park Road, Angaston SA 5353, reached off the Angaston side of the valley, with parking at the property. Angaston's cafes and food stops, plus Tanunda and Nuriootpa beyond, are all within a short drive.

Make a day of it

For a dog day out of the valley, Lambert Estate Wines and Thorn-Clarke Wines are Angaston cellar doors to check for outdoor tables, and Melba's Chocolates Barossa Valley is a town institution for a morning stop. If you want a secure run, Nuriootpa Fenced Dog Park is a drive north.
