Hawthorne Street Natural Area

The Hawthorne Street Natural Area in Ramsgate Beach is a restored strip of native bush and wetland along the tidal Tonbridge Creek. A paved path runs beside the water, and dogs are welcome on lead.

The walk

The footpath is flat and paved, following the creek past bushland that Bayside Council and local volunteers have been bringing back. The wetland here is an endangered ecological community, so it is a walk for looking, not exploring.

Lead rules

Bayside Council does not list this as an off-leash area. Keep your dog on lead and on the path, out of the regenerating bush and the creek edge.

Max: Keep paws on the path. The plantings along the creek are young and easily trampled.

Make a day of it

The green corridor carries on to Leo Smith Reserve, and Culture Brew Mug is close by for a coffee.

It suits a short, calm walk with a dog of any age. Bring water for the dog.
