What visitors mention
Scarborough Off Leash Dog Park sits inside Civic Avenue Reserve on Civic Avenue, Kogarah, a fenced patch of flat grass where dogs can run off-leash around the clock. It is a friendly neighbourhood spot that fills up morning and evening, and its gated setup makes it a handy place to practise recall.
The rules. Off-leash 24/7 under Bayside Council, but your dog must stay under effective control the whole time. Bag dispensers and bins are on-site, so clean up after your dog. The enclosure is gated, which suits training and keeps play contained.
What's there. A water bubbler with a bowl basin, shaded seating inside the fence, and bag dispensers with bins. A small children's playground sits in the wider, unfenced part of the reserve. Shade is limited across the open grass, so it gets exposed in the middle of a summer day.
Getting there. A dedicated car park runs off Civic Avenue near the Princes Highway. Kogarah Station on the T4 line is a short walk or quick trip away, and Kogarah Veterinary Hospital is roughly 400 metres up the road on President Avenue if you ever need it.
Watch-outs. The flat ground drains poorly and turns boggy after rain, so keep a towel in the car for muddy paws.
Nearby with the dogs. Kogarah town centre is a five to ten minute walk with cafes that welcome dogs outside, and Lady Robinsons Beach at Kyeemagh has a 24/7 off-leash section between gates 60 and 61.
Mid-morning and early afternoon on weekdays are the calmest. Weekday evenings and Sunday afternoons are the busiest. Skip the middle of the day in summer given the thin shade.
