Scarborough Off Leash Dog Park

The Scarborough Off Leash Dog Park occupies a corner of Scarborough Park at Civic Avenue, Kogarah, a flat grassed enclosure where dogs can run off lead around the clock under Bayside Council rules. It is a neighbourhood park with a local crowd rather than a destination dog park, busiest before and after work.

The dog setup

The dog exercise area is fenced with gated entry, which makes it a practical spot for recall practice and for dogs that need a contained run. Off-lead hours run 24 hours a day, but your dog stays under effective control the whole time: within sight, responsive to voice, and leashed the moment play turns unruly or you leave the enclosure.

Bag dispensers and bins are on site, and a water bubbler with a bowl basin sits in the reserve. There is shaded seating inside the fence for the humans. A children's playground sits in the wider unfenced part of the reserve, so keep dogs clear of it as council rules require.

Worth knowing

The flat ground drains poorly and puddles linger after rain, which dogs treat as a feature and owners as laundry, so keep a towel in the car. Shade across the open grass is thin, and the middle of a summer day bakes it; mid-morning or early evening is kinder. Weekday daytime sessions are the calmest if your dog prefers space, while weekday evenings and Sunday afternoons are the busy windows.

As a fenced enclosure inside a larger reserve, it doubles as a low-pressure training ground: arrive with a reactive or young dog early in the day, work on recall and gate manners, and leave before the crowd builds. Keep toys aside if possession disputes flare between regulars.

Getting there and parking

A dedicated car park runs off Civic Avenue near the Princes Highway. Kogarah Station is a short walk away, so it is reachable without a car. Kogarah Veterinary Hospital sits roughly 400 metres up President Avenue, worth knowing in an emergency.
