Sans Souci Beach Walking Path

The Sans Souci Beach Walking Path is a flat, paved foreshore route along Botany Bay and the lower Georges River, running from around Russell Avenue toward Dolls Point with the Captain Cook Bridge in view. It is a strictly on-leash suburban promenade, shared with joggers and cyclists, and best treated as an easy waterfront leg-stretch.

Leash status

Dogs stay on lead for the entire length of the path and the surrounding foreshore parkland, and Bayside Council's 10 metre playground and BBQ buffers apply. Dogs are not permitted on the sandy beach itself, so this is a path-and-parkland route only. For off-leash time, Bona Park in Sans Souci and Fry's Reserve in Kogarah are the designated alternatives.

The walk

The surface is paved and flat the whole way, fine for prams, wheels and older dogs, and the local Sans Souci to Dolls Point section covers a couple of kilometres. Keep going and it links toward Ramsgate and Brighton-Le-Sands as part of the wider bay foreshore walk, with the Sandringham to Brighton bay walk continuing the same shoreline north. Expect a breezy, busy suburban stretch rather than a quiet bush trail.

Drinking bubblers sit along the path but they are not dog-specific, so carry a portable bowl. Public toilets, waste bins and bag dispensers appear at the park entrances and toward Dolls Point, with benches and sheltered picnic spots along the water.

Max: flat and boring in the best way. It is the walk you do at 7am when the dog just needs distance, not drama.

Getting there and parking

Main access and limited free parking are at the end of Russell Avenue and along the foreshore access roads, which fill fast on weekends. Buses on nearby Rocky Point Road serve the southern end of the walk.

When to go

Go before 9am or on weekdays to dodge joggers and family traffic on the narrower sections. Tides do not affect the path, but a low-tide visit with exposed sandbanks reads calmer if your dog is unsure about open water. Exposed sections can be hot underfoot in summer afternoons, another reason the early slot wins.
