Brighton Le Sands Walking Path

The Brighton-Le-Sands foreshore path is a flat, paved walk running along The Grand Parade beside Botany Bay in Sydney's south, roughly 5 kilometres one way. It is a busy, scenic coastal route with cafes close at hand, but the deal is simple: dogs stay on the path, not the sand. Leash-only end to end, including right along the water.

Leash status

Dogs must be leashed on all Bayside footpaths, including this one, at all times. Dogs are not permitted on the beach sand at Brighton-Le-Sands itself, only on the paved path. Keep your dog under effective control, clean up after them, and check the posted Bayside Council signage as rules can vary by section. This is not the walk for a dog that wants a swim; the sand is off-limits.

Max: do not assume the sand is fair game just because you can see it. This is a footpath walk, full stop.

The path

The surface is flat and paved the whole way, with public benches spaced along the full length, public toilets on the foreshore and outdoor exercise equipment near the promenade. Water bubblers sit near the playground areas, but bring your own bowl to be safe. Bay views run the whole route, with plane traffic overhead on the flight path.

Getting there and parking

Access is via The Grand Parade, with paid and free parallel parking along it and in the side streets. Several bus routes serve The Grand Parade, and Banksia or Rockdale are the nearest train stations if you would rather walk in from the Illawarra line.

When to go

It gets busy on sunny weekends and public holidays, so aim for early morning or late afternoon, especially with a reactive dog. Good for confident on-lead walkers who are comfortable around crowds and cyclists.

Close by with the dogs

Cafes along the Brighton-Le-Sands strip take dogs in outdoor seating; Billy Boy Cafe & Bistro and ExpressoMe are both on the strip. For proper off-lead time, the Kyeemagh Off Leash Dog Area is a short trip north, and the Sans Souci Beach Walking Path continues the foreshore south.
