Veriu Green Square

Veriu Green Square is an apartment-style hotel at 18 O'Riordan Street in Alexandria, between the Sydney CBD and the airport, and it does take dogs, but only in designated apartments and only within a fairly tight policy. Book the pet-friendly room in advance rather than turning up with a dog and hoping.

The published conditions: dogs only, one per accommodation, and a maximum weight of 12kg, so this is a stay for small dogs rather than large breeds. A non-refundable fee of around AUD 250 per accommodation applies per stay, and certified assistance animals are exempt. Pets are allowed only in specific designated apartments, so request one when you book and get the arrangement confirmed in writing. As with other apartment buildings in the Veriu group, some house rules come from the Owners Corporation, which is another reason to confirm directly with the hotel rather than trusting a booking site's summary.

The place

Rooms are serviced-apartment style, from compact micro-apartments up to larger suites, each with a kitchenette covering stovetop, microwave, fridge and coffee machine. Guests rate it highly for quiet, modern rooms, comfortable beds and the location: Green Square station is close, and the airport is a short run, which makes it a practical base for travellers flying in with a small dog. An apartment stay also means you are not hauling a dog through hotel corridors and lifts at every walk time.

While you're out there

Alexandria is dense with dog-friendly cafes; The Copper Mill is a short walk away for coffee. For proper exercise, Joynton Park in Zetland is close, and Sydney Park's large open areas are just west.
