Joynton Park

Joynton Park is a 24/7 off-leash green space on the corner of Joynton Avenue and O'Dea Avenue in Zetland, right beside East Village Shopping Centre. It is the main off-leash meeting spot for the Green Square area, though the lawn is largely unfenced, so it suits dogs with reliable recall.

The rules. The main lawn is designated off-leash around the clock, but there are separate on-leash zones within the park, so check signage as you enter. It is not fully fenced, which means dogs can wander toward footpaths and roads if recall is shaky. The ornamental water feature is for looking at, not swimming, so do not let dogs jump in. Bring bags; the park provides bins and dispensers but they run out on busy days.

What's there. Open lawn, good lighting for evening visits, plenty of park benches and picnic tables, public toilets and barbecues. Pebble and Bark cafe sits on-site with outdoor seating that welcomes dogs, handy for a coffee while your dog runs around.

Getting there. It is an easy walk from Green Square Station on the Airport Line, and several bus routes run along O'Dea Avenue and Gadigal Avenue. Parking is tight: street parking nearby is metered, and the closest reliable option is paid parking at East Village Shopping Centre next door.

Nearby with the dogs. Both Delisia Panino & Espresso and Naxeion Cafe are an easy stroll away for a pre or post walk coffee.

Weekdays get busy around 7 to 9am and 5 to 7pm as locals fit in a walk before or after work, and weekends are steady all day. Mid-morning or early afternoon on a weekday is the quiet window if you want the lawn to yourselves.
