Wah Wah Lounge

Wah Wah Lounge is a Waterloo institution that has been part of the neighbourhood since 2003, now trading from a bigger, brighter spot on the corner of Bourke and Philip Streets after its 2023 move. It has a reputation as a genuine community dog cafe rather than one that merely tolerates pets, with staff who know the local dogs by name and a resident pup of their own.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome at the street-side outdoor seating, on lead and settled beside your table, and the team is famously attentive to four-legged visitors. Reviews regularly mention the staff greeting the neighbourhood's community dogs, so your pup will not be an unusual sight. Ask staff about a water bowl when you order. There is no fee and no booking needed for a footpath table.

The vibe and the menu

The menu runs all day from breakfast into lunch: bacon and egg rolls, eggs benedict, corn fritters, acai bowls and a solid burger and steak sandwich list, plus house-baked scones and matcha lattes. Coffee is their own boutique dark roast, Zest Coffee. It is a relaxed, family-run room with a loyal local following.

Getting there and parking

The cafe is at Retail 1, 859 Bourke Street, Waterloo, on the corner of Philip Street. Street parking is available on the surrounding blocks, but check the clearway signs along Bourke Street and expect the Saturday breakfast rush to tighten things up. Green Square station is a short walk away.
