Culture Brew Mug

Culture Brew Mug is a small, laid-back neighbourhood cafe at 3/62 Scarborough Street in Monterey, a short stroll from Lady Robinson's Beach, with a reputation for solid coffee, a generous all-day breakfast menu and a genuinely dog-friendly outdoor setup. Its frothy puppychinos have their own fan base.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the covered outdoor seating area on lead, and the cafe is openly proud of its dog crowd, puppychinos included. Water bowls are generally available, but confirm with staff on the day if you need one. The footpath and courtyard seating is tight, so a well-settled dog is the expectation rather than a bonus.

Worth knowing

The menu covers breakfast and lunch all day: smashed avo, French toast, corn fritters and acai bowls, plus a serious breakfast burger stacked with double bacon and fried eggs. Burger nights have run on Friday and Saturday evenings in the past as limited specials, so check the cafe's Instagram before planning a dinner visit. Hours run from 6:30am on weekdays and 7am on weekends, with the kitchen winding down mid-afternoon.

Getting there and parking

The cafe sits on Scarborough Street in the Monterey local strip. Street parking is available on Scarborough Street and the surrounding residential streets, and the beach path is a flat five-minute walk downhill towards Cook Park.

Close by with the dogs

Cook Park and the foreshore promenade are on-leash territory, and dogs are kept off the sand itself, so build the walk around the paths rather than the beach. The fenced space at Scarborough Off Leash Dog Park covers the off-lead quota nearby, and the coastal route at Brighton-Le-Sands Walking Path stretches the legs further north. For a second coffee in the same pocket, The Shack is the other Monterey option.

Max: puppychino delivered to the courtyard table, then a lap of Cook Park on the way home. The locals treat you like a regular by round two.
