What visitors mention
Palm Terrace Walk is a longer scarp loop in Mundy Regional Park, starting from the eastern end of Palm Terrace in Forrestfield and running into the Lesmurdie Falls area. It follows Lesmurdie Brook past wooden bridges, with sweeping views over the coastal plain. Dogs are welcome on lead.
The walk. Around 5.5km, a Class 3 loop taking roughly 1.5 to 3 hours, with moderate climbs, steep descents and some strenuous sections. Best from April to November for wildflowers and a flowing brook.
Leash status. Dogs must be on a physical lead throughout, as the trail crosses into Lesmurdie Falls National Park zones with strict on-lead and stay-on-track signage. Carry your own bags, as there are no bins on the trail.
Watch-outs. 1080 fox baiting is used at times in the surrounding regional park. Keep your dog on the lead and on the path, and do not let them forage in the bushes. There is no water source on the trail, so bring a full bottle and a bowl.
What's there. Unpaved parking at the Palm Terrace trailheads with no toilets. The main toilets and picnic area sit roughly halfway round at the Lesmurdie Falls car park. A few benches along the brook give you and the dog a spot to rest.
Getting there. From Perth, head east via Tonkin Highway and Welshpool Road East up the scarp, then onto Lesmurdie Road and Palm Terrace, around 30 minutes from the CBD. Public transport stops at the base of the scarp, leaving a long uphill walk, so driving is the practical option.
When to go. Early on a weekday morning to beat the heat and the Lesmurdie Falls sightseeing crowds on the shared mid-section. Good for fit dogs with a steady lead on rocky, uneven ground.
