Jorgensen Park Walk Trail

Jorgensen Park is the old Kalamunda golf course returned to bush, and its 2.9 km marked loop is that rare Perth Hills thing, a walk trail where a dog can legally have a run off lead on the open sections.

The walk. The golf club moved out in 1972 and the fairways stayed, so the loop rolls along wide pea gravel corridors between jarrah and marri forest, following red triangle markers for an easy 45 minutes or so. The going is mostly flat or gently rolling, kind on older dogs, and the open sightlines mean you can see other walkers and their dogs long before you reach them. Wildflowers come through in spring, and on a misty winter morning the old fairways are about as peaceful as the hills get.

The rules. The City of Kalamunda permits dogs only within the old golf course section of the park. On the open fairways they can be off lead under effective control, but carry the lead and clip it on around other walkers, children and dogs. The trail borders Kalamunda National Park, where dogs are banned entirely, and signage marks where the dog side ends. Access can also be restricted during ticketed events in the park, and picking up is expected as always.

Make a day of it. The park sits close to Kalamunda's town centre, which makes the after-walk easy: coffee at Mason & Bird or a counter meal at the Kalamunda Hotel. If you want a second walk with more water in it, Whistlepipe Gully Walk and Lesmurdie Falls are both a short drive down the scarp, and Perth Hills Accommodation keeps you in the village if you are staying over.

When to go. Spring is the show, with wildflowers along the fairway edges, and winter mornings bring the mist. The open sections carry little shade, so in summer walk early, and check for event closures before a weekend visit.
