Armadale Settlers Common

Bedfordale's bushland walking is mostly found in two hills reserves, Armadale Settlers' Common and Bungendore Park. Both are jarrah and marri country, and dogs must stay on a lead throughout.

Lead rules

The City of Armadale manages the reserves, with local conservation groups caring for parts of them. Dogs are allowed, but on a lead at all times.

The walk

Settlers' Common covers 383 hectares, with loops from a 1 km stroll to a 10 km hike. Most tracks are natural dirt and gravel, while the Jeeriji Trail has well kept gravel and paved sections.

Expect wildflowers in season and wide views over the scarp.

Water and shade

There are no reliable taps or dog bowls on the trails, so carry water for both of you. Bins are scarce inside the reserve, so plan to take your bags out to the car park.

The tree canopy gives good shade, although some open stretches catch the sun.

Make a day of it

Free parking is available at several entry points, including Observation Circle. Afterwards, finish at Last Drop Elizabethan or stop for coffee at Armadale Park Café.

Spring brings the wildflowers and cooler walking. The range of loop lengths makes it good for young, fit dogs and gentle walkers alike.
