The Getaway Roleystone

The Getaway Roleystone is a character cabin on 70 Croyden Road in the Perth Hills, and it is the rare stay where the dog welcome extends past the front door and into the daily routine. Dogs are explicitly welcome, treats are put out for hounds on arrival, and if you head out for the day the hosts can arrange to pat, walk and feed your dog while you are gone.

The pet policy is generous but not spelled out on paper, so confirm the details when you book: any pet fee, any size limit, and which parts of the cabin the dog can use. The setting helps make the case, a bush block with a fireplace for winter nights, a pool for summer, a large brick patio with a gas BBQ, and garden produce in season. It is the kind of property where a dog has a job to do, keeping the birds off the veranda, and room to do it. If your dog needs care while you are out wine tasting or hiking, that dog-minding arrangement is the standout and worth arranging in advance rather than assuming.

Getting there and walks

Roleystone is 30 to 40 minutes southeast of Perth, orchard country on the edge of the Darling Scarp. The signature dog walk nearby is the Contour Channel Walk, roughly seven kilometres along the historic 1930s water channel through Banyowla Regional Park. Note that dogs are on-lead only there, it is a DBCA-managed park with wildlife protection rules, and the terrain has steep sections and steps, so bring a short leash. For an off-lead run, the fenced enclosures at Harber Fenced Dog Park in Armadale are the drive back down the hill.
