The Fourth Monkey Cocktail Bar & Grill

The Fourth Monkey is a Caribbean-inspired tiki rum bar and grill in an old cottage at 58 Mollison Street, on the South Brisbane and West End border opposite the West Village precinct. It is openly dog-friendly, and the fairy-lit courtyard is where the dog belongs. Hours run from late afternoon Tuesday to Thursday and longer across Friday to Sunday, with the bar closed on Mondays.

The dog setup

Dogs of all sizes are welcome in the outdoor courtyard and front seating, leashed and settled. Water bowls are provided on request and there is no dog fee. The indoor room is small and dim, so the courtyard is the practical pick anyway. Walk-ins are fine, but on peak weekend nights book ahead and mention the dog in your notes so they seat you outside.

The vibe

The draw is the drinks list: tiki cocktails and rum from frozen margaritas to house creations, poured in a room that is rustic, intimate and decorated within an inch of its life. The grill menu leans Caribbean, with cevapi and haloumi among the plates, and free arcade games add to the back-yard-party feel. It suits a settled dog that is happy lounging while the courtyard hums.

West Village Common sits across the road for a quick leg-stretch, and the Orleigh Dog Park by the river in West End is the proper off-lead option a short drive away. For daytime dog-friendly coffee, GoodGood West End on Montague Rd famously welcomes pups, and Table 26 West End has a pet-friendly alfresco setup. If an off-lead run closer to the city suits, the Dutton Park Fenced Dog Park is one suburb over.
