Neal Macrossan Playground Park Fenced Dog Park

Neal Macrossan Playground Park Fenced Dog Park is a fully enclosed, double-gated off-leash run inside Neal Macrossan Park on Caroline Street, Paddington. In the inner west, where most off-leash space is open parkland, a secure yard a few minutes from the CBD is the whole reason to come, and it stays open around the clock.

The dog setup

Entry is through a double-gated airlock off Moreton Street, with a secondary walkway access from the Caxton Street side, so bolters have no easy exit. Inside the fence the run is grassed with worn sandy patches, and mature trees plus shaded seating shelters cover both ends. Water taps with fixed dog bowls, poo bag dispensers and bins sit close by, and evening lighting extends the day.

Brisbane City Council rules apply: stay inside the enclosure with your dog in sight and under effective voice control, leash and remove any dog showing aggression or harassment, carry bags and use the bins, and keep your dog registered and vaccinated. On-leash rules cover the rest of the park, and dogs are not allowed near the playground equipment or the adjacent Ithaca Pool grounds.

Worth knowing

The park shares its ground with a children's playground, skate bowl, basketball half-court and barbecues, so weekends hum with non-dog traffic. Weekday mid-mornings and early afternoons are the quiet window, while before 8am and the 4pm to 6pm stretch draw the regulars. The surface turns muddy after heavy rain, so pack the towel if the sky has been busy.

Getting there and parking

Street parking runs along Caroline, Moreton and Chrystal Streets, but the park sits in the Suncorp Stadium zone, so event-day parking schemes and traffic controls can shut down the surrounding streets. Check the stadium schedule before driving on game days. Council buses run along Given Terrace and Caxton Street, and walkways feed in from the residential streets.

Close by with the dogs

The Hope and Anchor on Given Terrace is a two-minute walk with a courtyard for a post-run drink, and JOZO handles the coffee stop. If the run here is full, the Broncos Red Hill Dog Park and Milton Park Fenced Dog Park are the fenced alternatives nearby.
