Red Gum BBQ Pit Stop is the Seaford offshoot of the well-known Red Hill BBQ, on Rutherford Road in a light industrial pocket. It is a casual, takeaway-focused spot for slow-smoked Southern-style barbecue, and dogs are welcome outside.

The dog setup. Dogs are allowed in the outdoor dining area near the smokers, where you can dine with your dog secured beside you. Indoors is off-limits to dogs for food-safety reasons. Water bowls are not always provided, so bring your own.

Good to know. The draw is the meat: slow-cooked brisket, pork ribs and pulled pork, with the chopped brisket roll a standout. There is also a grab-and-go range. It runs limited days, generally Tuesday to Saturday, so check before heading over.

Getting there. It is at 21 Rutherford Road with free on-site parking, in an industrial area easy to reach by car off the Nepean Highway.

A short drive from Seaford Beach and the Kananook Creek trail if you want to walk it off afterwards. Bring water for the dog, as the on-site supply is not reliable.
