Red Gum BBQ Pit Stop

Red Gum BBQ Pit Stop is the Seaford offshoot of the Red Hill barbecue operation, set in a light industrial pocket at 21 Rutherford Road. It is built around the pit smoker rather than a full sit-down dining room: slow-smoked Southern-style barbecue, casual outdoor tables and a grab-and-go counter. Dogs are welcome in the outdoor seating, which makes it an easy lunch stop on the way to or from the bay.

The dog setup

Well-behaved dogs on a lead are welcome in the outdoor dining area near the smokers, and they can settle beside you while you eat. The interior is off-limits to dogs for food-safety reasons, so this is an outdoors-only stop. Water bowls are not reliably on offer, so bring your own and check the current arrangement with staff, since seating at a takeaway-focused site can shift.

Worth knowing

The draw is the meat. Brisket, pulled pork and pork ribs come off the pit low and slow, the chopped brisket roll is the local standout, and the sides run to corn bread, slaw and bean chilli. There is a retail and grab-and-go range too if you are stocking the esky. Hours are limited: the Seaford site generally runs Tuesday to Saturday, so check before you drive over.

The address is 21 Rutherford Road, Seaford, with free on-site parking at the door. The strip is easy to reach by car off the Nepean Highway, and the industrial setting keeps footpath traffic quiet, which helps dogs that prefer a calmer kerbside.

Make a day of it

Point the car towards the bay afterwards: Seaford (Keast Park) Off-Leash Dog Beach gives dogs a proper run on the sand, and Kananook Reserve Dog Off Leash Area sits along the creek corridor.
