Maple Reserve Dog Off Leash Area

Maple Reserve is a linear off-leash strip in Seaford: a long, open run of grass flanking a busy paved bike path off Maple Street, designated 24/7 free-roam by Frankston City Council. Nothing here is fenced, and the shared cycle route running alongside is the defining catch, so this reserve rewards dogs with solid recall and is a poor fit for off-leash beginners.

Leash status

Off-leash is permitted around the clock in this free-roam area, but your dog must be under effective voice control and return immediately when called; if they do not reliably listen, council rules say they stay on lead, and you must carry a leash regardless. Greyhounds must remain on lead in all public spaces. Dogs need to stay clear of the bike path, the roads and the playground at the western end, and must not block, jump at or chase the cyclists and walkers sharing the route. Carry bags and use the bins.

Water and terrain

The ground is a long open strip of grass with some shaded patches under the trees, good for straight-line sprints rather than circuits. There are no toilets and no water station directly at the reserve, so bring your own water, and bring bags because the supplied dispensers are not always stocked.

When to go

The bike path is the real hazard, so time matters. Weekday commuter hours and weekend mornings are busiest with riders; midday and evening are calmer and safer for an off-lead run. If your dog startles at bikes or has shaky recall, keep them leashed through peak hours and save the free run for a quiet stretch.

Getting there

Free street parking runs along Maple Street, and the reserve sits about a 10 to 15 minute walk from Seaford Railway Station on the Frankston line, which makes it an easy car-free outing. The strip connects toward the wider path network running up the bayside.
