Pat Rollo Reserve Dog Off Leash Area

Pat Rollo Reserve is a 3.6 hectare community reserve in Frankston North with a designated off-leash area across its grounds. It's a dual-purpose space: the southern part is a part-fenced sports oval with short grass that doubles as home ground for the Pines Junior Football Club, while the northern end holds longer natural grass that stays quieter most of the year.

The dog setup

Fencing is partial, with open borders in places, so this suits dogs with dependable recall better than serial bolters. Frankston City Council's free-roam rules apply: dogs must be under effective voice control or supervision at all times, you must carry a leash, and you need to leash up within 10 metres of any playground, barbecue area or organised sporting event. Declared dangerous or menacing dogs must stay on lead throughout. Waste bins sit near the pavilion and in the southeast corner, though carrying your own bags is smart. There's a clubhouse, some basic exercise equipment and little in the way of dedicated dog water, so bring your own.

The vibe

The character of the reserve shifts hard with the seasons. Winter footy training and match days fill the oval end with whistles and crowds on weekday afternoons and weekend mornings, and the off-leash rights pause around any event in progress. Mid-morning on a weekday is the reliable quiet window. If your dog is nervous around groups or noise, that's the visit to plan.

Getting there and parking

The reserve sits near the intersection of Mahogany Avenue and Archer Avenue, easily reached off Frankston-Dandenong Road, with on-street parking along Silver Avenue. Buses run along Mahogany Avenue and the main road for anyone arriving without a car. Frankston's cafe strip is 10 to 15 minutes south if you want coffee after the run.

Close by with the dogs

If the oval is occupied by sport, Telopea Reserve Fenced Dog Park is the suburb's fully enclosed fallback, a couple of minutes away. For a bigger session with agility equipment, Ballam Park Dog Off-Leash and Fenced Agility Park is a short drive south in Frankston. And when the run is done, The Laughing Lark Cafe is a friendly spot to wind down over coffee.
