Pat Rollo Reserve is a 3.6-hectare community reserve in Frankston North with a dedicated off-leash area, part fenced oval with short grass and part longer natural grass at the northern end. It doubles as home ground for the Pines Junior Football Club, so expect it to feel different in winter.
The rules. Off-leash is allowed but dogs must be under effective voice control at all times. Leash up within 10 metres of any organised sporting event, the playground, or barbecue areas. Declared dangerous or menacing dogs, and greyhounds, must stay on leash throughout.
What's there. Waste bins near the pavilion and in the southeast corner, so bring your own bags as backup. The reserve has a clubhouse/pavilion and some basic public exercise equipment. Fencing is partial, with open borders in places, so it suits dogs with solid recall better than escape artists.
Getting there. Near the intersection of Mahogany Avenue and Archer Avenue, easily reached off Frankston-Dandenong Road. On-street parking is available on Silver Avenue. Bus routes run along Mahogany Avenue and Frankston-Dandenong Road for those without a car.

Watch-outs. The southern, less-drained sections get wet and muddy after heavy rain, so it's worth checking underfoot before letting a dog barrel through.
When to go. Mid-morning on weekdays is the quiet window. Weekend mornings and weekday afternoons during winter sports season are the busiest. Frankston's cafe strip is about 10 to 15 minutes away if you want to make a morning of it.
