Sandfield Reserve Fenced Dog Park

Sandfield Reserve is a fully fenced off-leash dog park on Sandfield Drive in Carrum Downs, run by Frankston City Council and sitting alongside a renovated playground, basketball court and skatepark. At more than 4,500 square metres with a double-gate airlock entry and a separate quiet zone, it is the local pick when you want a safe enclosed run rather than open ground.

The dog setup

Inside the fence, dogs run off-leash under effective voice control, with a compact agility set of ramps, hoops and platforms, a dog water tap at the western end and shaded seating for owners. The enclosure splits into an active area and a quieter time-out patch at the eastern end, so a nervous dog is not stuck with the boisterous crowd. Bag dispensers and bins sit at the gates. Outside the fence, keep your dog on lead within 10 metres of the playground, skatepark and BBQs, and clean up is required throughout.

Worth knowing

The wider reserve carries a lot: playground with water play and a flying fox, skatepark, basketball half-court, BBQs, picnic tables and public toilets, which makes it a genuine family-and-dog outing rather than a quick stop. It handles weekend crowds well, but the gates get busy in the school pickup window. Weekday mid-mornings and late evenings are the calmest, and the ground holds mud after rain.

Getting there and parking

Access is off Sandfield Drive with parking near the reserve entrance. Local buses serve Carrum Downs along the arterials, but most visitors drive, since the walk in from the main roads is not short.

Make a day of it

The vast KCC Park at Skye is the region's big off-leash draw a short drive inland, and on warm days the Keast Park off-leash dog beach at Seaford adds sand and water. Frankie's Coffee and Eats in Carrum Downs is the local coffee stop.
