Slow Smoke Bistro

Slow Smoke Bistro is an American-style low-and-slow BBQ house at 81 Redcliffe Parade, on the Redcliffe foreshore strip opposite the water. Brisket, pork ribs and pulled pork come off the smoker, and the footpath tables out front welcome dogs, which makes it a natural finish to a walk along the Redcliffe Parade esplanade.

The dog setup

Dogs take the outdoor footpath seating, on lead and settled on the ground beside your chair. The tables sit against the main foreshore foot traffic, so it best suits a dog that is relaxed about passers-by, prams and other walkers. Water bowls are often put out, but pack your own collapsible bowl in summer when the strip is busy and staff are stretched.

Max: weekend middays are the busy window on the Parade. A weekday lunch table gives a nervous dog far more room to settle.

The vibe

The kitchen is built around the smoker: brisket, pork ribs, pulled pork and jalapeño poppers, with pulled pork fries as the share-plate people order without checking the menu first. Live music nights add to the evenings, and the room runs from casual lunches through to dinner service. Hours vary by day: closed Monday, from 5:30pm Tuesday, midday Wednesday to Saturday and 11am Sunday, so check the day you plan to go.

Getting there and parking

Redcliffe Parade runs along the top of the foreshore, with street parking on the Parade and side streets plus council carparks a block back. The bistro sits within walking distance of the Redcliffe jetty end, and the whole foreshore path is an easy on-lead warm-up or cool-down walk with the dog.

The strip stacks up dog-friendly tables: Mamma's Italian and Preece's are on the same stretch, Over There Cafe and Redcliffe Treehouse cover coffee, and Jetty Lounge sits near the jetty end.
