Preece's

Preece's is a long-running cafe and restaurant at 155 Redcliffe Parade, directly opposite the Redcliffe Jetty, serving breakfast through dinner with the bay in front of you. The French-bistro style pavement tables out front take dogs, which makes it the natural refuel stop on a foreshore walk along the Redcliffe Peninsula.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome at the outdoor pavement seating on Redcliffe Parade, on leash, with the jetty and the water across the road. The indoor dining room stays people-only under the standard food-safety rules. Staff are accommodating and will usually bring out a water bowl on request, but bring your own travel bowl during peak rushes when the pavement tables are full. The tables sit close to the footpath, so a settled dog that can ignore passing strollers will be happiest here.

Worth knowing

The counter display of cakes and pastries is the headline, and the vanilla slice is the one everyone talks about, with a gluten-free-friendly option alongside. The menu covers all-day breakfasts, fish and chips, steaks, burgers including a halloumi burger, pizzas and seafood, with vegetarian and vegan-friendly choices, plus coffee and gelato for the walk back. Hours run from 5:30am daily, closing 4pm Monday to Wednesday and Sunday and 9pm Thursday to Saturday, so it handles sunrise coffee through dinner. Weekend middays are the busiest stretch; early morning is the easy window with a dog.

Getting there and parking

The cafe fronts Redcliffe Parade in the main foreshore strip, about 40 minutes north of Brisbane. Free street parking runs along Redcliffe Parade and the side streets, with a free public car park close by, and it fills on weekends, so aim for before 9am or after 1pm. The whole foreshore is flat and easily walkable from the surrounding peninsula suburbs.

Close by with the dogs

The seaside path runs straight past the door and the jetty walkway is a few steps away for an on-lead stroll. For sand time, Redcliffe Dog Beach, Queens Beach North is a short drive up the peninsula, Redcliffe dog park at Clontarf covers the off-lead run, and The Belvedere at Woody Point is another dog-friendly sit-down option along the bay.
