Graeme Higham Park

Graeme Higham Park is a quiet residential park on Ashmole Road in Newport, on Brisbane's Redcliffe Peninsula, with water views over the canals and enough mature trees to make an easy leash walk genuinely pleasant. It is a passive neighbourhood park rather than a purpose-built dog park, and that shapes what you should expect.

Leash status

The park is not fenced and dogs are on-lead here under City of Moreton Bay rules, so treat it as a walking stop rather than a run-off-the-lead destination. Keep your dog out of the playground area, carry your own bags because there is no guarantee of dispensers, and check any signage on arrival in case the council has updated the zoning.

The dog setup

What you get is open lawn for a slow sniff around, a handful of benches under shade trees and a tidal shoreline for the view. There is no dedicated dog infrastructure: no water bowls, no fenced run, no agility gear. The shoreline is tidal, so high tide gives the better outlook and low tide exposes more mudflat, which is worth knowing before you let a muddy dog back into the car.

Pepsi: this is the coffee-walk park, not the fetch park. Save the off-leash energy for Newport Park's fenced run up the road.

Getting there and parking

Street parking runs along Ashmole Road, with an accessible entrance and accessible parking space at the park. Bus stops nearby connect through to Kippa-Ring and Redcliffe if you are leaving the car at home.

When to go

Weekday early mornings and late afternoons are the quiet windows, and the shade makes summer visits workable before about 10am. Weekends bring families to the playground, so give it a wide berth with a lead-sensitive dog.

While you're out there

The Newport Park Fenced Dog Park and The Warmies Dog Off Leash Area cover the off-leash side of things nearby. Anchorage Bakery Cafe and Odd Spot Cafe both take dogs in the outdoor seating. On a calm morning, the Peasholm Dog Beach at Scarborough is a short drive north for a proper swim.
