Rosa Mexicano Glenelg

Rosa Mexicano sits at 9A Moseley Square, the beach end of Glenelg, a bright and lively Mexican kitchen doing tacos, fajitas and margaritas with the sand a few steps away. The outdoor tables facing the square are the dog-friendly part, and the beachfront position makes it the natural finishing point for a foreshore walk.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome at the outdoor seating on a lead, not indoors, and Moseley Square itself is an on-leash zone under City of Holdfast Bay rules, so the dog stays tethered at the table. This is the middle of the beachfront buzz, with trams, buskers and foot traffic all day, so it suits a dog that is comfortable in crowds. Water bowls are not a given, bring your own, and call ahead at peak times to lock in an outdoor table.

The vibe and the food

The menu runs to fish tacos built on battered flathead with chipotle aioli, loaded nachos, sizzling mixed grill fajitas, chimichangas and enchiladas, with solid vegetarian options and a big margarita and sangria list. The tone is festive rather than quiet, which is either the draw or the dealbreaker depending on your dog. Dinner leads the week with evening-only service Monday to Thursday, and longer lunch-to-night runs from Friday to Sunday; check current hours before a special trip, as they shift seasonally.

Getting there and parking

The Glenelg tram terminates across the square, so arriving by tram with a dog is easy and skips the parking hunt entirely. If you drive, central Glenelg's paid car parks are the reliable option; street parking near the square is busy, especially in summer.

Close by with the dogs

The beach and promenade are directly out front. Holdfast Bay lets dogs off-lead on the sand before 10am and after 8pm during daylight savings and under effective control outside daylight savings, with signed hooded plover nesting zones always on-lead; Glenelg North Dog-Friendly Beach is the mapped dog beach up the coast. For the rest of the strip, Bullet Club takes dogs at its Moseley Street footpath tables, and Closer Coffee Shop covers the morning coffee run.

Pepsi: Time dinner to the after-8pm off-lead beach window, burn the dog off on the sand first, then let the square-side table be the cool-down.
