Seafaring Fools

Seafaring Fools is a maritime-themed cafe and bar at 60B Broadway, Glenelg South, on the suburb's main cafe strip a few blocks back from the beach. It is the relaxed alternative to the Jetty Road crush, and the outdoor dining space at the front is where dogs are welcome, which makes it a straightforward finish to a shoreline walk.

The dog setup

Dogs are permitted in the outdoor dining area only, not inside the venue. Keep your dog on lead and under the table or hard against your chair, because the Broadway footpath is a working one and staff carry plates past regularly. Water is worth bringing along yourself rather than assuming a bowl service, and if the front tables are full the fallback is a short wander along the strip until one opens.

The vibe and the menu

The kitchen runs a concise brunch menu: breakfast burgers, a proper Reuben, smashed avo and a pork and pear salad, with matcha lattes and solid coffee behind the counter and mains sitting mostly in the $20 to $40 range. Weekday hours are 7:30am to 2pm, weekends 8am to 2:30pm. It fills quickly on weekend mornings, so an early arrival pays off if you want a front table with space for a dog.

Getting there and parking

Free street parking runs along The Broadway and neighbouring side streets, but check the time restrictions before you settle in. Glenelg South beach is within easy walking distance for the walk that earns the brunch, and for an off-lead run the Glenelg North Dog-Friendly Beach sits a little further up the coast.
